Kōryō, Nara

town in Kitakatsuragi District, Nara Prefecture, Japan

Kōryō (広陵町, Kōryō-chō) is a Japanese town in Nara Prefecture on the island of Honshū. The town has a population of 33,606 people.[1]

According to tradition, Kōryō was sometimes the site of an Imperial Palace,[2] including

  • Umayasaka Palace or Umayasaka-no-miya, 640.[3]
  • Kudara Palace or Kudara-no-miya, 640–642[3] Kudara is related to an ancient name of the Korean kingdom of Baekje.[4]
