Career
changeBefore playing in the NHL, Yamamoto played parts of 3 seasons with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League (WHL). During his time with the Chiefs, Yamamoto would be named to the Western Conference Second All-Star Team.[1] On October 31, 2016, Yamamoto was named the Player of the Week in the WHL.[2]
He was drafted 22nd overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. On October 4, 2017, Yamamoto made his NHL debut in a 3–0 win against the rival Calgary Flames.[3] On October 18, 2018, Yamamoto scored his first NHL goal in a 3–2 overtime win against the Boston Bruins.[4] Yamamoto would sign a two-year, $3.1 million per year contract to stay with the Oilers on August 4, 2022.[5]
On June 29, 2023, the Oilers traded Yamamoto along with Klim Kostin to the Detroit Red Wings.[6] He would not play for them as the Red Wings would buy out his contract after putting him on waivers.[7]
On July 2, Yamamoto signed a one-year, $1.5 million to join the Seattle Kraken. By doing this, he became the first in-state player in the team's history.[8]
On October 6, 2024, Yamamoto signed a 1-year, 2-way contract to join the Utah Hockey Club.[9]
