Kanchipuram is one of the seven most holy cities of Hindus. It is about 60 kilometres (37 mi) southwest of Chennai, Tamil Nadu state, India. Kanchipuram was an important religious and cultural place of Ancient India. The city continues to be an important religious place.
For a long time, from the 6th century till the 8th century, the city was capital city of the Pallava dynasty.
