The Kansas City metropolitan area surrounds the city of Kansas City, Missouri. It includes 14 counties in both Missouri and Kansas.[1] With a population of 2.2 million people, it is the second largest metropolitan area in Missouri behind Greater St. Louis.[2] However, the Kansas city metropolitan area gained population from 2020 to 2023. The St. Louis metropolitan area lost population.[2]
