Karel Vuursteen

Dutch top official (1941-2004)

Karel Vuursteen (25 July 1941 – 30 December 2024) was a Dutch top official.[1]

Born in Arnhem in 1941[1], Vuursteen studied development economics at the University of Wageningen. Between 1968 and 1991, he worked for Philips where he held various management positions. He was the CEO of Philips Lighting from 1990 to 1991.[2]

From 1991, he was a member of the board of directors of Heineken and was the CEO of Heineken from 1993 to 2002. He was elected CEO of the year [nl] in 2001. He was a member of the supervisory boards of Electrolux (from 1998)[3]), Ahold (until 2004[4]), ING, Gucci Group, Henkel (until 2013), AkzoNobel (2009-2014[5]) and TomTom (2009-2014[5]).[2][6]

Vuursteen was married and he had three children.[2] He died on 30 December 2024, at the age of 83.[6][7]
