Lee Kun-hee

4th and 6th Chairman of the Samsung Group (1942–2020)

Lee Kun-hee (Hangul: 이건희; Hanja: 李健熙; Korean pronunciation: [iːɡʌnhi]; January 9, 1942 – October 25, 2020) was a South Korean businessman. He was the chairman of Samsung Group. In 1996, Lee became a member of the International Olympic Committee. His family has a net worth of US$40.8 billion, which make them among the Forbes richest people in the world.

He was the third son of Samsung founder Lee Byung-chull.[3]

In May 2014, he was hospitalized for a heart attack and was in a coma.[4]

In 2014, Lee was named the world's 35th most powerful person and the most powerful Korean by Forbes Magazine's List of The World's Most Powerful People along with his son Lee Jae-yong.[5]

He died on 25 October 2020 in Seoul from problems caused by the heart attack he suffered in 2014.[6] He was 78 years old.[7]
