Lindsey Ann Way (née Ballato; born May 21, 1976) commonly known as Lyn-Z, is a Scottish musician and artist. Born in Dunoon, Scotland,[1] she is best known for being the bassist in American electronic rock band Mindless Self Indulgence.
Way is also known for her artwork and has collaborated with Frances Bean Cobain, Jessicka Addams, and other fine artists. She currently resides in Los Angeles with her husband, Gerard Way and her daughter, Bandit Lee Way.
Early life
changeOn May 21 of 1976, Lindsey was born to Pam Ballato in Dunoon, Scotland. When she was a child, she and her family moved to Connecticut. Lindsey Way loves art, and she created lots of art as a child, stating that it was, "Pretty much the only thing I was good at." [2] In her late teen, early young adult years, Lindsey attended Pratt University to receive her degree in Fine Arts and Illustration. [1] After this, she worked in New York as a window display artist. [3] Lindsey has one sister, Amy Greene (née Ballato).
Career
changeLindsey joined the band Mindless Self Indulgence in 2001. [4] Prior to joining the band she did not know how to play bass, or even what tablature was. The band called her in to audition. Lindsey stated that, "There is no way I will get into this band on bass talent alone."
She did end up getting into the band, officially joining in 2001. Lindsey has played bass on every Mindless Self Indulgence release since she joined the band. The first release she played bass on was Alienating Our Audience, a live EP the band put out in 2002. The first official album she played bass on was You'll Rebel To Anything, which the band released in 2005.
In 2010, she hosted an art show alongside fellow artist, and musician, Jessicka Addams. She has hosted numerous art shows over the years, her most recent being Ghosts For Sale in 2017.
Personal life
changeLindsey Way married her husband Gerard Way on September 3, 2007 at the end of their Projekt Revolution tour, which both of their bands were performing on. She gave birth to her daughter, Bandit Lee Way, on May 27, 2009. [5]
She has expressed a love for artists such as Bikini Kill, The Notorious B.I.G., Britney Spears, PJ Harvey, The Cure, and Dolly Parton.
Lindsey has also stated on multiple occasions that she deals with very bad stage fright, and oftentimes won't talk to anyone in the time leading up to the show.
