Lola Smallwood-Cuevas
Lola Smallwood-Cuevas is an American politician. She became a senator in the California Senate in 2022.[1] Smallwood-Cuevas represents District 28. The district is for South Los Angeles and Culver City, CA.[2] She started the Black Worker Center at University of California, Los Angeles.[3] President Barak Obama liked the work Smallwood-Cuevas did for workers.[3]

Family and Early Life
changeSmallwood-Cuevas was raised in a single parent household.[4] She movedto California, with her mother, when she was young. Her mother wanted better jobs and schools.[1][4] Her mother is a nurse.[5] Smallwood-Cuevas graduated from California State University at Hayward.[6] She is married. She has one daughter and one son.[4]
Career
changeSmallwood-Cuevas was a journalist.[7] She wrote for the Chicago Tribune, the Long Beach Press Telegram and the Oakland Tribune.[8] She reported on the lives of working families.[4][7] She then worked as a researcher for United Service Workers West.[5][4] Smallwood-Cuevas co-founded the LA Black Worker Center.[1][4] She also works with the Center for the Advancement of Racial Equity at Work at UCLA.[1]
California State Senate
changeSmallwood Cuevas became a California State Senator on December 5, 2022.[6] She is part of the Democratic Party.[2] She represents district 28 in Los Angeles California.[1][6] She got 99,479 votes out of 140,996 total votes.[6] She had 59.9% of the votes.[2]
