Maryborough, Queensland

city in Queensland, Australia

Maryborough is a city in south east Queensland, Australia. It is built on the banks of the Mary River. It is on the Bruce Highway about 255 km (158 mi) north of Brisbane. In 2006 there were 25,705 people living in the city and the nearby area.[2]

Maryborough was first settled in 1847 which makes it one the oldest towns in Queensland. The city was named after the Mary River.[3] The river was named after Lady Mary FitzRoy, wife of the Governor of New South Wales, Sir Charles Augustus FitzRoy.[3]
