Sultan of Sokoto

Muhammadu Bello was the second Sultan of Sokoto, he ruled from 1817 to 1837. He also published a lot of historical, poetic, and Islamic studies writing. He was the son and personal aid of Usman dan Fodio the first Sultan and creator of the Sokoto Caliphate. During the reign of Muhammadu Bello, he encouraged the spread of Islam throughout the region, increasing education for both men and women and the establishment of Islamic courts. He died on October 25, 1837, and was succeeded by his brother Abu Bakr Atiku, and then his son, Aliyu Babba.[1]
