The Indians had won the IPL trophy five times (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020). In 2011, they won the Champions League Twenty20 trophy for the first time and repeated the feat in 2013. Mark Boucher is the head coach of the team. Rohit Sharma is the captain of the team. Assisting them in coaching are Jonty Rodhes as the fielding coach and Shaun Pollock as the bowling coach.[2]

changeReliance Industries Limited purchased the rights of Mumbai Indians for a total of ₹ 4410 M ($ 112.9 M) during the auction on 24 January 2008.[3]
IPL Seasons
change2008 Season
changeThe Indians lost their team captain & icon player, Sachin Tendulkar due to a hamstring injury and he was cured later on then immediately. Harbhajan Singh replaced him as the captain of the side. Due to some issues, Shaun Pollock had to takeover as the coach from Jonty Rhodes because of a leg injury, which was cured later then on immediately, which bought some stability into the side for the first time in the season. The Indians finished with a total of 7 wins and 7 losses and thus missed out on a playoff spot by a few points.
2009 Season
changeDue to the general election in 2009 in India, the second edition of IPL had to be held in South Africa. The second season also proved to be a setback for the team as they finished with a total of 5 wins, 8 loses and 1 no result (that match got cancelled due to rain); and thus not making it to the playoffs again.
2010 Season
changeDuring the auction held for the 2010 IPL season, Mumbai Indians purchased Kieron Pollard for ₹ 64.932375 M ($ 750 K). This proved to be a great boost for the team. After the group stages, Mumbai Indians won 10 out of their 14 matches thus qualifying them for the playoffs. In the semifinals against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mumbai Indians emerged victorious by 35 runs.
The Mumbai Indians then faced Chennai Super Kings in the final of the 2010 Season; the match was held in Navi Mumbai. Mumbai Indians lost the match by 22 runs thus finishing as the runners-up and Chennai Super Kings won the match by 22 runs and finished up as champions successfully.[4]
They completed the season with a total of 11 wins and 5 loses and also got a spot in the Airtel Champions League Twenty20 in that year, in which they were defeated along with all the other IPL teams against Chennai Super Kings who won that trophy in 2010 again victoriously off. Team captain Sachin Tendulkar scored 681 runs in the 2010 season.
2011 Season
changeMumbai Indians introduce two new players to their squad, Aiden Blizzard and James Franklin. Both these players perform well for the team in their debut season. Team captain Sachin Tendulkar put up an impressive performance by scoring 613 runs in 10 matches and at the same time, team's senior bowler, Lasith Malinga took 28 wickets out of the 15 games. Impressive performance by Mumbai Indians in the group stages got them a place in the playoffs. Due to the addition of 2 more teams from this edition of Indian Premier League, the playoffs were a bit different.
Mumbai Indians defeated Kolkata Knight Riders in their eliminator by 4 wickets. Mumbai Indians went on to fight Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the qualifier 2. Mumbai Indians were defeated by Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 43 runs, which ended the IPL journey of Mumbai Indians in the 2011 season. The defending champions Chennai Super Kings defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final and won the trophy thus, Chennai Super Kings were getting the first spot. Royal Challengers Bengaluru finished second while Mumbai Indians finished third. But Mumbai Indians won Champions League Twenty20 instead in that year.
Sachin Tendulkar scored an unbeaten ton against Kochi Tuskers Kerala of just 59 balls and was the only centurion from Mumbai Indians that season.

Kieron Pollard is taking up the role of batting coach of Mumbai Indians after being released by MI, Mark Boucher has been appointed as the new Mumbai Indians's IPL 2023 head coach. The vacancy opened up after Mahela Jayawardene was elevated to a more global role within the Mumbai Indians group which now has teams at India's IPL, South Africa's SA20, UAE's ILT20. Mumbai Indians lost IPL 2023 semifinal against Gujarat Titans and were eliminated from the tournament fully off, with lowest statistics and 5 trophies.
