Ocotea

Ocotea is a genus of flowering plants, in the laurel family. Many are evergreen trees. There are over 520 species. Most occur in subtropical regions of the Americas. Some occur in Africa, and the islands close to it. One species is native to Macaronesia, it occurs on the Canary Islands, and Madeira. The genus is likely paraphyletic.
