Ormoc

city of the Philippines in the province of Leyte

Ormoc is a city in the Philippines.[1] It is in the Eastern Visayas region in the province of Leyte.[2] It is the second largest city in the province. In 2010, 190,000 people lived in Ormoc.[3]

In 1991, Ormoc was hit by Tropical Storm Thelma. On 8 November 2013, the city was affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).[4][5][6][7]

Ormoc is one of a few cities in the Philippines where people use e-tricycles.[8]

The city and nearby areas are sometimes attacked by the New People's Army (NPA).[9]

The city got its name from ogmok, an old Visayan term for lowland.
