Austrian footballer (1928-2000)

Robert Dienst (1 March 1928 – 13 June 2000) was an Austrian football forward. He played mainly for SK Rapid Wien. He played also in the Austrian national football team. For Austria he played in the 1954 - and 1958 FIFA World Cup .

Club career change

Robert Dienst started his career at Floridsdorfer AC, where he played his first game as a midfielder. In 1948 he went to Rapid Wien where he played till 1962. He became one of the most successful Austrian goalscorers in the 1950s. He scored 323 goals in 351 games in total in the Austrian Football Bundesliga. Three times he was top goalscorers. With his 307 Bundesliga goals, he is still Rapid's record league goalscorer. At the end of his career he played for SV Schwechat.

International career change

He made his debut for Austria in an October 1949 match against Hungary and earned a total of 27 caps, scoring 12 goals.[1] He was a participant at the 1954 FIFA World Cup and 1958 FIFA World Cup. In 1958 he was in the squad but did not play.

Manager career change

He coached a few small clubs with (Floridsdorfer AC, SV Tulln, SV Stockerau and Kremser SC). He also worked as an assistant coach at Rapid in 1967–68 (where he won the double) and at Austria Vienna in 1974–75.
