Attempted assassination of Robert Fico
On 15 May 2024, Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico was shot in Handlová in an assassination attempt.[1]

The shooting happened outside the House of Culture in Handlová. Fico was giving a speech to a crowd at the time of the shooting. During his speech, several sounds of gunfire were heard and Fico fell to the ground.[2] The suspect was captured by several people and police closed off the area.[3] He was in his 70s who wrote poems about death.[4][5][6]
Fico was carried into a car by medical personnel[7] and taken to Handlová Hospital before being airlifted to another hospital.[8] Five shots were fired, with one shot hitting Fico in his abdomen and others hitting his head and chest.[9][10][11] It is reported that Fico's condition was critical.[12]
