The Malloys directed a music video for St. Anger . It was shot in San Quentin State Prison , California. It won a 2003 Metal Edge Readers' Choice Award for Video of the Year.[ 6]
The video begins with drummer Lars Ulrich starting the beat and saying "En, to, tre, fire!" When translated from Danish, it means "One, two, three, four!" At the end of the video, a sentence appears on a black background. It reads: "For all the souls impacted by San Quentin, your spirit will forever be a part of Metallica."
