Leacock completed his doctoral studies at the University of Chicago and started to teach at Upper Canada College before becoming Dean of political science and economics at Mcgill University in Montreal. Leacock eventually became principal of McGill.
Leacock became a well-known writer and humourist and for a time was the world's most famous comedian. Leacock was an influence on Groucho Marx. Leacock was a social conservative. Leacock died in 1944. An Award for Canadian humour was named after him.
