Synthesis

Synthesis means to bring ideas together, or to make something out of parts which were independent. It is the opposite of analysis.

As an intellectual activity, synthesis occurs often in philosophy and science. In philosophy, synthesis is the end of a process of argument. Two examples of people whose work was mostly synthesis are:
- Charles Darwin
- Herbert Spencer

In chemistry, to synthesize is to make new compounds from simpler elements.
In acoustics, speech synthesis is the artificial production of human speech.
