Māori King (1955–2024)

Tūheitia Pōtatau Te Wherowhero VII GCCT KStJ KCLJ (born Tūheitia Paki; 21 April 1955 – 30 August 2024), crowned as Kīngi Tūheitia, reigned as the Māori King from 2006 until his death in 2024. He was the oldest son of the last Māori monarch, Te Arikinui Dame Te Atairangikaahu. He was announced as her successor and crowned on 21 August 2006, the final day of her tangi.

On 30 August 2024, Tūheitia died while recovering from heart surgery in hospital in Hamilton, New Zealand at the age of 69.[1]

His daughter Ngā Wai Hono i te Pō, was elected by leaders of tribes as his successor.[2]
