This page was based on one on English wiki, which contained many poor-quality links, many of which do not now deliver information. That page is so US-centered as to be almost amusing. Claims that the date is celebrated worldwide are just nonsense. Indeed the whole idea of having commemorative dates is largely American in its origin and practice.
