I honestly dissagree that this article is not explaining what democracy is

Paragraph I've removed

I've removed the paragraph below, which was previously included in the introduction to this page:

"In very basic terms, there are two kinds of democracies. Those democracies where the people directly chose their leaders are called direct democracies. Because this process can be hard to do if there are many people to choose from, there is also another broad category, called indirect democracy, or representative democracy. With indirect democracy, the people elect a committee (other people), who will then chose the leaders."

This is factually incorrect. A direct democracy is not where the people directly choose their leaders. A direct democracy is where the people directly make the decisions - in other words, where there are no leaders. This means that both Presidential and Parliamentary systems are indirect forms of democracy. This was not made clear in the paragraph I've deleted.

confusing first paragraph

"Democracy means rule by the people." people would think that 'rule by the people' is the literal definition of democracy

• Although the prose is not a model, the page is essentially correct in its opinions. Yes, it could all be rewritten, but until then it is not untrue. People are sometimes too critical. Pages can be difficult to write well. This is one of them. Macdonald-ross (talk) 14:01, 14 August 2023 (UTC)
