Contest entry change

@Ferien:, I absolutely love your choice of topic. It's spot-on for the contest and so important for all readers of western history. But I'd like to see in simpler English. My readability gizmos mark it as hard to read or high school level and I'd like to see it more middle school level. Right now it is very similar to the en.wiki article. @Darkfrog24: Ok, I assume the timeline is the less simpler part for you? I've simplified it a bit, but I think more simplification would be good. --Ferien (talk) 15:59, 13 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Actually, it wasn't the timeline. 1) I only read the opening. "Term" could be "word." "Focused." "De facto." A reader might wonder what you mean by "political power." 2) I ran the entire article text through my readability gizmos and got "difficult to read" and "tenth grade."
Ferien, I will add that every entry I've seen in this contest so far has been somewhat complex English. It's not just you and it might be me. When I see articles like these normally I just hit "change source" and simplify them myself. The only reason I'm not doing so right now is because of the contest. It feels weird telling someone else to do all that work.
I just asked at Meta if the contest entries are still eligible if I simplify the article myself. If they say "yes they are," how do you feel about that? Darkfrog24 (talk) 16:42, 13 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'll try to simplify the article some more in the introduction. If you feel I haven't simplified enough by tomorrow, please feel free to simplify mine more. --Ferien (talk) 16:56, 13 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
I've simplified the opening some more. I don't think there's much more I can simplify, at least in the opening. --Ferien (talk) 20:22, 13 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
They gave the okay. In I go! Darkfrog24 (talk) 01:27, 14 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
