This template adds a page to Category:Wikipedia protected edit requests. It is a self-reference and so is part of the Wikipedia project rather than the encyclopedic content.

Place {{changeprotected}} on a talk page to request an change of the corresponding fully protected page. It should be accompanied by a clear and specific description of the requested change. Providing the new sentences or code in your request, if possible, will expedite the process.

To report an error you have noticed on the current main page, please add it to the talk page instead. This template should also not be used on semi-protected pages, as no administrator assistance is required to change them.

Administrators may decline to make any change, and are especially likely to reject changes that are controversial, violate Wikipedia rules, or do not have evidence of consensus.

The talk page on which an changeprotected template request is placed is automatically categorised into Category:Wikipedia protected edit requests. Administrators will check this category for protected change requests to process.

Changes affecting several pages

change

Sometimes the same or similar changes are needed on several pages, such as adding the same category to many pages. Then add {{changeprotected}} to only one talk page and instead add a list of the pages that needs updating below it, together with the description of what needs to be done. This saves work for both the editor doing the request and for the admin responding to the request. Requests for large-scale changes that require administrative abilities can also be made at the administrator's noticeboard.

change

Once a request is handled, it's best to leave the {{changeprotected}} tag as an un-transcluded tag by changing it to, for example, {{tlx|changeprotected}}. This removes the message box from the talk page and removes the talk page from the category, while still leaving a record of the request.
