Temse

municipality in East Flanders, Belgium

Temse is a municipality in Belgium. It is in the province of East Flanders, in the region of Flanders. There are four towns in the municipality: Temse, Elversele, Steendorp, and Tielrode. In 2007, 26667 people lived there.[2] It is at 51° 07 North, 04° 12 East.[3]

The name Temse comes from the Gaul (Gallo-Roman) word Tamisiacum or Tamasiacum. Until the early 20th century (1900s), the French name of the city was used: Tamise.
