The band was formed in 2009 with three members, Tyler Joseph, Nicholas Thomas, and Chris Salih. Together, the band released two albums, Twenty One Pilots (2009) and Regional at Best (2011). In late 2011, Thomas and Salih left the band, and Josh Dun joined.[13] In 2012, Twenty One Pilots were signed with Fueled by Ramen, a record label.[14] Their first album through the record label, Vessel, was released with Fueled by Ramen in 2013.[15] Their next album, Blurryface, was released on May 15, 2015 through the same label. After a year-long hiatus, they released their fifth studio album, Trench, on October 5, 2018. They released a single named "Level of Concern" on April 9, 2020.[16] They released four singles which are named "Shy Away", "Choker", "Saturday" and "The Outside"[17] in 2021, and also an album, named Scaled and Icy on May 21 in that same year. Clancy, their seventh album, was released on May 24, 2024.[18] It was delayed from the original date of May 17.[19][18] This was due to the need to have more time to finish the music videos, which were supposed to be released on the same day as the album release.[18]
