Work in progress documentation - please help if you can!
About
changeThe quick template tool allows you to quickly add canned messages to a userpage. The tool is accessed by clicking on the "Quick Template" button at the top of the page (only shows up on user and usertalk pages).
Template packs
changeBy default, the tool contains no templates. These instead come from template packs created by other users. The second button opens a new window titled "Select Template Pack". By default, this window will contain 2 buttons:
- Help/Get more template packs
- Create new template pack
If you click on the
- first option, you will be redirected to this page.
- The second button allows you to create your own template pack.
How to install template packs
changeInstalling a pre-existing template pack created by others is simpler than creating your own.
- Go to /templates and choose a template pack you would like to install.
- Copy the pack code below the pack description.
- Now go to RedWarn preferences,
- Scroll down to the purple "Quick Template" card on the bottom right sidebar and click "Install Template Pack"
- Paste in the template code into the alert box and press OK.
Once a pack is installed, you can use the quick template feature to apply that template to a user's talk page.
Updating
changeIf a pack creator has updated the pack, to update, open the quick template editor and delete the current pack, then reinstall it.
How to make your own template packs
changeYou can create and modify packs by clicking "create new" or the pencil icon in the quick template screen. This will present you with a naming dialog and then the edit screen which fully supports all normal Wikitext. In addition to normal wikitext there are also a few special RedWarn shortcuts:
<!-- ##RW UNDERDATE## -->
- tells RedWarn to place this template under the current date header, like a notice{{subst:BASEPAGENAME}}
will produce the username of the target user (will show as "API" in previews)- For text inputs, use
{{RWTEXT|Title|UniqueID}}
(replacing "title" and "UniqueID" with a title for the textbox and a unique ID) - See also: WP:VAR - these are also supported.
Once you're finished, you can publish the pack by using the "manage publishing" button. You can also use this to update previously published scripts.
