J. Cole (born Jermaine Lamarr Cole; January 28th, 1985) is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and professional basketball player. His first album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart in 2011. Cole was born on a military base in Frankfurt, Germany to American parents. He was raised by his mother and cousin in Fayetteville, North Carolina.[4]
He released his first mixtape The Come Up in 2007.
In 2009, Cole was the first artist signed to rapper Jay-Z's label, Roc Nation.
Some of the awards J. Cole has won over the years included three Soul Train Music Awards and eight BET Hip Hop Awards. In 2015, he won a Billboard Music Award for Top Rap Album. In 2020, he won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Song.
The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has certified five of his albums as platinum.
