User:GabrielPenn4223/Mistakes

If you are blocked on Wikipedia, like me, you may seem to worry a lot about your mistakes and regret them quickly. Don't worry, everyone makes mistakes. If you've made mistakes, learn from them. This will show several of my mistakes that I've already learned from:

My many mistakes i've learned from:

change
  • I once jumped into numerous complicated processes, like Good Article Review. These areas are actually intended for very experienced editors that know the rules globally in and out and have a massive understanding of how Wikipedia works. I didn't have that much experience with the basics of editing, and many editors I know don't participate in these areas because they don't even have enough experience.
  • While my contributions to Redirects for Discussion were generally fine, I still wasn't experienced enough.
  • I once made too many unconstructive edits in just a short period of time, which caused a minor edit-war on my talk page on the English Wikipedia.
    • Many people, even if they were kind or not, were trying to give out a variation of advice. This led to a massive amount of negative feedback, and a bit of trouble. I also repeated the same promises over and over, which is something nobody wants to see.
  • I once had a tendency to make an edit or message, then change my mind just seconds later.
    • I once made many edits to the Simple English Wikipedia without using the sources, when in reality, citing is a extremely important thing in Wikipedia.
    • I once sent messages a bit aggressively (unintended), which led to a bit of trouble.
  • I once submitted an unblock request in August 2024, but it was declined because I only made 50 edits here at the time. In reality, the intention is that you should contribute around 500-1000 edits (if I'm correct) or more to a Wikimedia project. According to WP:SO, many requests were declined because the editor either barely made any edits to a project, or didn't make any edits at all.
  • I once called out a user for something they did over six years ago, even though they probably already learned from it. It was a non-standard Featured Article nomination.
  • I once oversent messages to a user saying I'd promise to follow their advice. As said earlier, nobody wants to hear the same things over and over.

Tips (to help prevent future mistakes)

change

Think: You can help prevent further trouble by thinking carefully of what you're doing, and modify it (unless it's okay) to make it accurate to the WP standards.

Read: Read the rules of any website, including here on Simple English Wikipedia. If you're on Wikipedia, read the Five Pillars, to prevent further trouble. Not just that, but also their major guidelines (or if possible, every rule). It's not the editors to do their job for you, it's your responsibility to follow the rules. You should really only ask help when it's actually needed. Be self-reliant, and rely on yourself.

Revise: Try to revise your edit always, to prevent future negative attention.

Don't Panic: Stay calm, try to take advice from users and feel better. Nobody is mad at you! We're here to give constructive advice.

Focus on other projects!: Title says itself. If you're blocked on one Wikimedia project (Ex: Wikipedia), you can move onto other projects, like here (Simple English Wikipedia).

Start simple steps!: If you are wanting to go to things

Conclusion

Hopefully, this will give you time to take about. I'm not mad at you! Nobody is mad at you, as I said earlier! No one is perfect, and we will always make mistakes. Just don't repeat them, learn from them.
