Writing guideline change
Lead change
- Title as unlinked, bolded subject of first sentence (e.g., "In geometry, an angle is an opening... ")
Headings change
- Avoid special symbols and links
- Ideally 10- words
- Leave a comment if linked to the section
- Changing heading requires fixing the backlinks
Paragraphs change
- Simplify words whenever possible
- No contraction (e.g., don't, can't)
- No inline latin abbreviation (e.g., i.e., n.b.)
- No "you" or "I"
- Use "we" to refer to everyone only ("To solve this equation, we need to find the value of A.")
- No unnecessarily complex sentences
- Avoid slash (/) in general (and/or)
- Avoid question mark (?) and exclamation mark(!) in general
- For emphasis, use italic only (not capitalization)
- Italic when referring to single terms (deuce means "two")
- Avoid relative time expressions (e.g., recently, to date)
- Avoid adjective relative to subjective experience (e.g., big, small, tiny)
Dashes change
- En-dash (–) for ranges (e.g. A–Z, 1999–2003)
- No space around em-dash (—)
Lists change
- Capitalize each entry (even for sentence fragments)
- Sentences end with period. Fragments do not (and should not)\
Links change
- Only wikilink if contribute to better understanding of the article
- Mostly nouns (i.e., not verb or adjective)
- Wikilink first occurrence of the word only
Post-article change
- Related pages >
- For large lists, group similar items under headings
