User:Osiris/work/Velebit
Velebit (talk ▪ changes) is a long-term sockpuppeteer whose puppets have been blocked on multiple Wikipedias (including the English, Serbian, Croatian, Albanian, Bosnian, Russian and Spanish wikipedias, but never on the Simple English Wikipedia). Descriptions of his editing behaviour can be found in this directory.
Obviously a dynamic IP issued by Verizon. Entries highlighted in red, however, were found to be abusing that advantage at a deletion request I filed.

The two registered accounts listed below are sockpuppets of user Velebit, who is now banned on the English Wikipedia. On top of the obvious behavioural links, a clear link is demonstrated in this edit when one of the Verizon IP addresses links (in 2011) to an obscure, ancient revision from 2006 of a talk page on the Serbian Wikipedia. The old revision is by Purger (talk ▪ changes), a confirmed sock of Velebit. It was immediately reverted at the time, since it was the full text of the book source the IP wanted to link to (it's since been deleted for copyright reasons).

- Luciano di Martino
Luciano di Martino (talk ▪ changes) (see separate case page) is another sockpuppeteer connected with the case. In February 2012, a possible connection was drawn between Velebit and Luciano. Both users have almost identical editing patterns, interests and behaviour. In response to Luciano's final block through an arbitration motion, one of his suspected sockpuppets Eleven Nine (talk ▪ changes) issued a rant quoting John Harnad (see here). Several of the above Verizon IPs have repeated this exact same rant whenever anticipating a block (see examples here, here, here and here).
The typical appearance of two sets of IPs, both working together in several different (sometimes cross-wiki) disputes over lengthy periods of time suggests, at the least, meatpuppetry. They are easy to identify: the Verizon IP, which is static, and a more stable IP assigned by VeriSign. The most recent stable IP is 216.168.230.7, which has been active cross-wiki since April 2012. It appears suddenly and conveniently to weigh in on whatever disputes or edit wars the Verizon user happens to be involved in at the time. It makes little or no further edits of its own and then disappears until the next dispute comes up. Some examples:
- April 2012 - edit war on en:Neo-Nazism, sudden appearance of the Verizon user to help out
- May 2012 - edit war on en:Wikipedia talk:What Wikipedia is not to stop removal of one of the VeriSign user's John Harnad rants, Verizon user suddenly appears
- later in May 2012, the VeriSign user suddenly appears at simple:Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2012/Croatian Liberation Movement to "vote" with the Verizon user (the author) against rewriting the article
- After a break of about 3 months, both IPs re-emerge to edit-war on en:Talk:Croatian Liberation Movement in August 2012
