Pope Linus was the second Bishop of Rome, so he was the second pope. He was pope from about 67 CE until he died in around 76. Some sources say that Pope Clement I was the second pope, but the Annuario Pontificio (list of all cardinals and popes) lists Clement as the fourth pope. Many people have been called the pope, but only Peter, Linus, and Clement were mentioned in the New Testament of the Bible.
