Welcome change

Hello, A7x/Archive 01, and welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia! I hope you are happy editing here and being a Wikipedian. Some helpful pages to start you off are Wikipedia:Useful, Help:Contents and Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines.

If you want to meet and talk with other members, you can visit our version of the "village pump" at Wikipedia:Simple talk. Just remember that you should sign your messages on Talk pages by typing "~~~~" (four tildes) at the end of your words.

We have a special page that describes how to write Simple English articles. If you want some ideas of which pages to work on, read Wikipedia:Requested articles or the list of wanted pages.

We are also focusing on core articles until this Wikipedia grows. This list of topics will be helpful if you want to start such pages.

Even though it is a good idea to research an article (like looking at the discussion page) before making large changes, do not be afraid to be bold! Any changes you make that are not perfect can be fixed later.

If you need any help, send a message to an administrator on his or her talk page. Administrators on Wikipedia will try to help you with your problems and resolve them as soon as possible.

Finally, if you have any questions on how things work, don't hesitate to ask me. The best way to do that is to leave a message on my talk page. Good luck and happy editing! Archer7 - talk 23:32, 29 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Image upload change

Sorry, image uploads are not allowed on this Wikipedia. You can upload free images to Wikimedia Commons and link to them just like you would here, but fair use images are not allowed. For more information, see Wikipedia:Image use policy. Billz (Talk) 19:37, 3 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

A while back we introduced a ban on image uploads to prevent copyright issues. Anything that is free licensed is to be uploaded to Commons, which you can reference to just like a local image ([[Image:Name.extension]]). No 'fair use' images are allowed at all unfortunately. See Wikipedia:Image use policy. Archer7 - talk 19:54, 3 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, but we've decided that userboxes (except Project:Babel) are not allowed on Simple English. -- Netoholic @ 02:21, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, sorry. Archer7 - talk 11:22, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hola change

Que tal? Icelandic Hurricane 22:10, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oh I wrote, Hi, what's up? I've only made 10 edits to simple (11 when I save this). Icelandic Hurricane 22:14, 23 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm not low about it. Icelandic Hurricane 15:16, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Focus change

Please don't become excessively involved in the social aspects of Wikipedia, such as Esperanza. We are here to write an encyclopedia. You've made only 15 edits to the main article space, yet 106 in User/User talk. I understand you've heard similar feedback on EN:, so please consider this a warning. -- Netoholic @ 05:03, 4 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Answer's to questions change

I made the High Blood Pressure because I had to do a homework assignment on it, and when I was done, I copied it to simple. Also, if you want to make your userpage like Chacor's, I think you just add this;

<div style="background: #FFE45A"> <h1 style="background: #E81B16; color:white; text-align:center; margin:0; padding:0.5em 0">Alastor Moody</h1> <div style="float:right; margin:0; margin-left: 3px;margin-bottom: 3px;">{{user en}}</div></div>

Change the userbox or header if you want. I had to put something there (I think). But I'm not sure how to get the background for the non-header stuff. Good luck! If it doesn't work right, then ask Chacor or the person he got it from, cuz i'm a little clueless myself. Icelandic Hurricane 21:22, 4 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Adminship requirements change

Hi! Just one thing really: some people's adminship requirements differ to others. Personally, I like 3 months experience and 1000+ edits. You can't really set a standard to suit everyone. I suppose we could set a minimum, but I don't want to see too many people applying with 501 edits if you see what I mean. I think it would be good to set a guideline though. Archer7 - talk 14:18, 7 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

3 months sounds good, but of course, that's just my opinion. I think 1000 edits is normally the minimum to get a good look at their behaviour through disputes etc. Perhaps this would be better as a discussion on Simple Talk?

Miscellaneous templates change

Miscellaneous templates are templates than don't fall under any other template category.--TBCΦtalk? 20:26, 7 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your message to User talk:Chacor change

Could you please explain the edit you made on Chacor's talk page? This does not seem like what you want Esperanza to represent, does it? What is going on? Blockinblox 16:57, 8 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

You asked me for a 'helping tip' to avoid conflict. My tip would be, wait in one place for him to do something to you first, instead of rushing right in. If he strikes the first blow, you can complain, but here you already have, and he has complained to Netoholic. Already a bad start. This is a much smaller community than en: so if either one of you harasses the other it will probably be dealt with by the community. Blockinblox 02:27, 9 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yes, Alastor. Chill out. Remember, it is not nice to deal with people no matter how angry you are, okay?-- Tdxiang @ 08:55, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

vandalism ? change

What are you talking about? You just warned a vandal who's last vandalism was in March and who's been blocked since that very day. Also, this is not "bad-faith" editing. It is simple user unfamiliarity with wiki-markup. Stop acting so randomly. Work on articles. -- Netoholic @ 03:33, 9 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Warning change

Especially recently, but actually during your entire time here, You seem unwilling to devote time to article work. Instead, you engage in random meta-issues, creation of processes and templates which are unnecessary at present. Your signal-to-noise ratio needs to be addressed. If you don't stop being so random, I will start using blocks to encourage you.

If you need another specific example, here you reverted calling it "vandalism". Expressing an opinion, especially on a Talk page, is never vandalism. PErhaps you don't like that opinion, and it certainly wasn't the best page for them to post it, but it is not vandalism. Worse than that, you insulted them by leaving them the Template:Test message, which doesn't apply (he didn't do a "test" edit nor was it to an article). Template:Test is ONLY for users who've made a mistake in what they've tried to do. It is not for obvious vandalism (Template:Vandalism is for that) nor is it for people voicing their opinion on a Talk page. -- Netoholic @ 03:28, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

stub templates change

Use Template:Stub. Do not create others. -- 07:28, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Re:2006 Atlantic hurricane season change

Unfortunately, I do think the storm histories are a little to technical. But I can't work on it right now, g2g2 school right now. Icelandic Hurricane 11:58, 20 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Welcomes! change

Hello, Alastor! Thank you for welcoming newly created users! However, I would reccomend that you wait until they contribute before welcoming them... :) Cheers!-- Tdxiang @ 02:56, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dejue change

This user you welcomed was actually a vandalism only account, blocked by Netoholic today. Was there any reason for welcoming him? :)-- Tdxiang @ 02:58, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

    • Well, now you know. :)

See you soon, Alastor!-- Tdxiang @ 03:04, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Two of those users you welcomed were vandals... :( Check their contributions and, if necessary, their block log. And... I added my name on your friends list. Feel free to revert. Haha. Cheers,Alastor!-- Tdxiang @ 03:10, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
You might also want to see my reasoning here.-- Tdxiang @ 03:12, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Oh well, but anything can happen, so it's better to be safe than sorry. And... what do you think of my prospect of going for adminship?-- Tdxiang @ 03:19, 31 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Barnstar change

Hey Alastor Moody, thank you for your barnstar (I just realized it was there on my user page), congratulations and support! I hope I can use my sysop tools wisely. If there's anything you want, just drop me a line. Cheers, Tangotango (talk) 23:39, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Netoholic decision change

Yes, all privileges were removed. The final count was 5 in favour of removal of all privileges, 3 in favour of sysop only, 2 neutral and 1 for keeping all privileges. Thanks, Archer7 - talk 17:04, 20 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Hello, Alastor. Netoholic's veto was considered invalid and so Angela re-opened my nomination once again. I do not have any plans of running for bureaucrat in the near future and I congratualte Archer7 and Blockinblox for having a new, advanced mop. You work hard too!-- Tdxiang 09:59, 23 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks and a question change

Thanks for the greeting and welcome. I will do my best! One quick question: Do articles here include a cross reference link to articles of the same name that exist within en.wikipedia.org? I haven't noticed any but maybe I missed it. Or, maybe there are many reasons why they are not there...? Thanks again. Katalaveno 19:03, 1 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

SYSOP change

Currently I am runing to become a sysop. The main reason why I want to become one is to better help in the war against vandalism, I believe in tougher blocks against vandals and after the 2 time they vandaliz an article I will impose a ban on them. I have a lot of free time so I will be a active sysop. At one point I had a average of 50 edits a day, now I have a average of 30 because I was busy and not able to edit. If you have any questions ask me on my talk page please. Have a nice week and god bless.--Sir James Paul 21:05, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

  • I really do not know if you would be a good sysop. You have not been active while I have been here. I can tell you. If you really want to know run to be one, you will learn a lot from it. Have a nice week.--Sir James Paul 21:38, 11 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Do you think if I wait until Feb.13 I will be able to do good in a Rfa? Have a nice week and god bless.--Sir James Paul 11:57, 13 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
