Intersexuality

change

Hey. I just wanted to let you know there's nothing personal here. I may disagree with your changes, but if it's bad enough, that's what talk pages are for. As for my question, thank you - I appreciate you answering fairly. While the UN isn't a medical organization, replacing a defunct organization's citations with that seems fine to me, so I'm not about to change that particular page. I appreciate the chance to work with you, hopefully. Lithorien TalkChanges 14:19, 19 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! Intersex is a social and human rights issue, not only (sometimes) a medical issue. A UN site called "United Nations for Intersex Awareness" and a statement by UN and regional child rights and other human rights experts cannot be dismissed on grounds that they are not medical. I agree with you that it's a human rights and social issue. That being said, replacing a medical definition with a social one is inappropriate - perhaps combining them in the same article to explain the differences in viewpoints would be more appropriate than overwriting one or the other? The World Health Organization is a UN agency and it has coauthored statements with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. The cited UN statement (citation 12) is signed by the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to health, a medical doctor. Trankuility (talk) 14:38, 19 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
