Soviet politician (1897-1938)

Vasily Sharangovich (3/4/1897-3/15/1938) was a Soviet politician from Belarus who was the leader of the communist party from March till July 1937. He was executed by shooting on March 15 1938 during the Trial of the 21.

He was born in a small governorate, he as the people's comisar for justice from 1921 to 1922, he went abroad in 1925 for work in the official ussr until he was appointed leader, on March 13 1938 he was sentenced to death for being part of a counter-revolutionary terrorist group and was executed on March 15th.

He was born to a peasant family, worked as a locksmith and driver's assistant on the railroad in Molodeczno, in December 1917 he joined the RSDLP (b), from 1918 to December 1919 a Red Army soldier, participated in the civil war in Russia. In the years 1921–1924 he worked in the administration of justice of the Byelorussian SSR (1921-1922 he was deputy people's commissioner for justice of the Byelorussian SSR), later he was sent to party work in Siberia. From 1925 to 1937 he sat with breaks in the Central Committee of the KP (b) B. From March 18 to July 29, 1937, he headed KP (b) B.

During the great purge on July 27, 1937, he was arrested by the NKVD. Defendant in the third Moscow show trial (along with, among others, Nikolai Bukharin, Alexei Rykov and Gienrich Yagoda) before the Military College of the Supreme Court of the USSR. On March 13, 1938, he was sentenced to death on charges of participation in a counter-revolutionary terrorist organization. He was shot on March 15, 1938, at the site of Kommunark's execution, buried anonymously.

Since 1934, he was a member of the Party Control Commission (CPC) under the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks, authorized by the CPC for Kazakhstan and the Kharkov region. Since March 1937, 1st Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (b) of Belarus. He led the deployment of a campaign of mass repressions in the republic. In June 1937, at the XVI Congress of the Communist Party (b) of Belarus, h≤e declared: “We must completely destroy the remnants of the Japanese-German and Polish spies and saboteurs, the remnants of the Trotsky-Bukharin gang and nationalist carrion, crush and grind them into powder, no matter how they disguise themselves no matter what hole they hide in." 17/7/1937 arrested. Involved as an accused in the trial in the case of the Right-Trotskyist Anti-Soviet Bloc. On March 13, 1938, he was sentenced to death. In the last word, he declared: "I felt the whole nightmare of the treacherous, treacherous crimes committed by me against the Soviet people, against the Soviet country. Anyone like me will certainly be crushed by all the might of Soviet power.”And then was shot. In 1957 he was rehabilitated, in 1958 he was reinstated in the party. Sharangovich was rehabilitated in 1958.

 

He was posthumously rehabilitated in 1958.
