It was released on February 11, 2002 in North America,[1] September 27, 2002 in the United Kingdom[1] and October 3, 2002 in Japan on the Xbox.[1] The game was released on October 14, 2002 in North America[2] and on November 1, 2002 in the United Kingdom.[2] A sequel was released in 2002 called WWE Raw 2.

IGN rated the game a 9.1 out of 10 and said "The hardcore fans will get plenty of enjoyment out of the difficult AI, the awesome multiplayer modes and the super deep Create-A-Wrestler mode.”[3]

GameSpot gave the game a 6.5 out of 10 and stated "While the game does some things very well, it generally falls short of expectations."[4]
