Walter Mirisch

American film producer (1921–2023)

Walter Mortimer Mirisch (November 8, 1921 – February 24, 2023) is an American movie producer. He is president and executive head of production of The Mirisch Corporation. His brother Marvin and half-brother Harold were also producers.[1] He won the Academy Award for Best Picture as producer of In the Heat of the Night (1967).[2][3] Mirisch was married to Patricia Kahan (1924–2005); they had three children, Anne Mirisch Sonnenberg, Andrew Mirisch, and Lawrence Mirisch.[4] His son, Lawrence, is the founder of the Mirisch Agency.

Mirisch turned 100 on November 8, 2021,[5] and died of natural causes in Los Angeles on February 24, 2023, at the age of 101.[6]
