Categories are used to help organise the articles in Wikipedia. There are several things to think about before making a new category:

First, please make sure that there is not a similar category which already exists. Special:CategoryTree may help you to find existing categories.
You also need to think about whether your category is needed. New categories should usually have at least three articles ready to go in them.
If you are unsure what the category should be called, our naming guidelines may give you a better idea.
