Wikipedia:Babel
This page shows how to tell others what languages you speak. This helps people who speak many languages to speak.
Levels
change- Basic: You understand simple sentences in the language
- Intermediate: You understand most sentences and can speak and write
- Advanced: You understand and write at a high level
- Near-native: You speak the language very well
- Professional: You never mess up a word
Native: Self-explanatory
For example, de-1 means a basic level of German. es-3 means advanced Spanish. en with no number means a native speaker of English.
Show others your language level
change1. Pick the languages you understand. Choose your level in each language. For example, if you speak fluent Spanish, choose "es-3". If you have studied English for several years, put "en-2".
2. Put the language codes on your user page using templates. For example, if you speak two languages, put {{subst:Babel-2}} followed by the two language codes: {{subst:Babel-2|es-3|en-1}}
. This looks like this:
You may also use the code {{#Babel:es-3|en-1}}
to get a similar effect. It is simpler as you do not have to count the number of languages you speak.
3. Now, your name will be in the following categories: Category:User es, Category:User es-3, Category:User en, and Category:User en-1. All are subcategories of Category:User languages.
