Red Tape

change

Bureaucrats perform vital tasks. They need to be professional. They need to make hard decisions which could ultimately infuriate many other users. Who would want that job? Well many people actually. We don’t have enough. There are only three (Creol, Eptalon and Vector) bureaucrats, one of which is not very active at all. There are only two options I can see to remedy this situation.

  1. Promote more Bureaucrats
    • I can already see the opposition claiming another one isn’t needed. I say that another admin isn’t needed. We currently have 21 admins, but you would not oppose an RfA on those grounds would you? An editor is good enough, and reliable enough to be given the tools, the community votes, and (s)he is promoted. Why can’t this work the same way for an RfB?
  2. Promote every admin
    • Not as crazy an idea as it first seems. What more can a Bureaucrat do than an admin? An admin is already a trusted member of the community. Why not allow them the new tools to close an RfA? The problem that occurs from this method is of course the fact that it would be harder to pass an RfA.

So what is to be done? A discussion has to take place on the best course of action.

My recommendation is to list every active admin (non-bureaucrat) and look at every one and then decide who to promote. Being an admin is no big deal, so why should being a bureaucrat be such a big deal that two highly respected admins are opposed in an RfB on such flimsy grounds?

Lets move with the times and promote the best in our community to Bureaucrat. We need a discussion about the whole RfA/B procedure, to ensure the process is the best it can be.

You can read more about my proposed new RfA procedure at User:Kennedy/RfA.
