Introduction change

Dengue fever, is a mosquito-borne disease, caused by the dengue virus.[1]


Onset of illness change

Symptoms, typically begin three to fourteen days after infection.[2]

 

Symptoms change

This may include a high fever, headache, vomiting, muscle and joint pains. [3][4]

 


Skin Rash change

Another symptom to identify Dengue fever, is rash.[1][2]

 


Causes change

Dengue, is spread by several species of female mosquitoes.[2][1]

 


Prevention change

A vaccine for dengue fever has been approved, and is commercially available, in a number of countries.[5]

 


Remove Standing Water change

Getting rid of standing water, is another method of prevention, to reduce the mosquitoes


Prevent Mosquito Bites change

Further, it is recommended to buy mosquito nets, and wear clothes, that covers much of the body.[1]

 


Treatment change

Treatment of dengue, is supportive, and includes giving fluid, either by mouth, or intravenously for mild, or moderate disease.[2]

 


Severe Dengue Treatment change

For more severe cases, blood transfusion may be required.[2]

 


Severe Dengue Admissions change

About half a million people require hospital admission, every year.[1]

 


Recovery change

Recovery, generally, takes two to seven days.[1]
