Wikipedia talk:Merging and moving pages

Latest comment: 7 years ago by Hobart in topic Move tab

The text of the policy reads:The move feature is able to move pages in any namespace (except category). I think it is wrong. Pages in category namespace can be moved too, however, moving them doesn't result in recategorization of the pages in the category with the old name. I think it should be corrected. - Huji reply 18:55, 17 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

What this means is that the category page itself (the page in the category namespace) cannot be moved. In fact, you don't even get a move button on those pages. Blockinblox - talk 20:23, 17 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes, you are right. - Huji reply 20:30, 17 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Move tab

change

The instructions on how to rename a page state: '2.  Click the tab labelled "move."'

I see no tab labelled "move", only tabs for "Read", "Change source", "View history", and "" (for adding the page to my watchlist). Where is the move tab? Lambiam (talk) 02:18, 5 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

User:Lambiam is correct, the instructions are wrong. Attempting to force the issue by browsing to simple...Special:MovePage/Foo leads to a Permission error. If Simple doesn't want regular users having Move, they need to leave documentation of what to do instead. I'm leaving a comment on Wikipedia:Simple talk
