Yashaswini Singh Deswal

Indian sport shooter

Yashaswini Singh Deswal is an Indian sport shooter. She won the gold medal in the 10 metre air pistol event at the 2019 ISSF World Cup in Rio de Janeiro.[2] She secured a quota position for India at the 2020 Summer Olympics.[3]

Early and personal life

Yashaswini was born on 30 March 1997 in New Delhi. Her father Surjeet Singh Deswal is an IPS officer. He works as the Director General of Indo-Tibetan Border Police. Her mother Saroj Deswal is the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax in Panchkula, Haryana. She completed her study at DAV College in Chandigarh.[3]

Career

Yashaswini started shooting in 2012. She qualified for the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics where she finished sixth in the final of the 10-meter air pistol event. She won the silver medal in the youth category in Asian Championships in Kuwait. She had also won the team bronze medal in the Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany. In 2015, she won the team gold medal along with Heena Sidhu and Shweta Gwande in the Asian Airgun Championship in Delhi. In 2016, she had also won the gold medal in the South Asian Games in Guwahati. In 2017, Yashaswini won the 10m Air Pistol gold medal in ISSF Junior World Championship in Suhl, Germany. In May 2017, she won the bronze medal in the 10m Air Pistol event in Plezen, Czech Republic.[3][4][5]

In 2019, Deswal won the gold medal at the 2019 ISSF World Cup in Rio de Janeiro. With this win, she booked a quota spot for the 2020 Summer Olympics. She defeated Olena Kostevych, a former Olympic and world champion, by scoring 236.7 in the final round.[6]

At the 2021 ISSF World Cup in Delhi, she won gold in the women's 10m air pistol event with a score of 238.8.[7]
