Zayed University
Zayed University (Arabic: جامعة زايد) is a federal university in the United Arab Emirates. The university is named for Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the country's first leader. There is one campus in Abu Dhabi and one campus in Dubai.
History
changeZayed University opened in 1998. It was an Emirati women's university for ten years. In 2008, 200 men started attending the university. The first Abu Dhabi campus was on Delma Street in the city but in 2011, they moved to a new campus in Khalifa B city. The Dubai campus moved to Academic City in 2006.
University leaders
changeIn 2014, Lubna Khalid Al Qasimi became president of the university. In 2015, Marilyn Roberts [1] became acting provost of the university.
Study
changeStudents study all subjects in English at Zayed University. They must score a 5.5 on IELTS or a 1500 on EMSAT exams to enter the colleges. If they do not get those scores, they can enter the Academic Bridge Program (ABP) to improve their English language skills.
The University has six colleges and one language program:
- College of Arts and Sciences,
- College of Business Sciences,
- College of Communication and Media Sciences,
- College of Education,
- College of Information Technology,
- University College
- The Academic Bridge Program (English Language Development)
Academic Bridge Program
changeThe ABP is a one year program. It helps students improve their academic English language skills in reading, writing, speaking and Listening. If students succeed at the program, they can enter the colleges at Zayed University to continue their studies.
Nickname
changeZayed University is sometimes called ZU.
