Japan's heavy rain disaster that occurred in July 2018
The 2018 Japan floods were a major natural disaster in western Japan. Heavy rain began on 28 June 2018 when a Meiyu front became stationary over Japan. The front extended west from a non-tropical low near Hokkaidō.
Deadly flooding began on 5 July, mostly in the Kansai region.[1] Several areas saw their greatest one-hour and three-day rainfall totals on record.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) issued heavy rain warnings for areas of western Japan. Hiroshima, Okayama, Ehime, Fukuoka, Nagasaki and Kyoto were among the areas included in the heavy rain warnings.
Over 200 people were killed due to the flooding. Rescuers raced to look for survivors of the floods.[2]
