The Altmühl is a river in Bavaria, Germany and is about 230 kilometres (140 mi) long. It is a left tributary of the river Danube.

The river starts in the town of Ansbach. From here it runs southeastwards it enters the Altmühlsee (a lake) north of Gunzenhausen. The Altmühl passes through the towns of TreuchtlingenEichstätt and Beilngries and finally flows into the Danube river at Kelheim.
