Area code 917
area code that serves all five boroughs of New York City
Area code 917 is an area code for New York. It was created in 1992, as an overlay to area codes 212 and 718. This marks the first time an area code is overlaid, where an area code is added to an existing NPA, which would be a more common practice in the 2000s decade and beyond. It covers the entirety of New York City, including the Bronx. It was overlaid by 646 in July 1999,[1] 347 in October 1999, 929 in 2011,[2] and 332 in 2017.[3]
