Coat of armsEdit

The district's arms are the same as the coat of arms of the margravate of Upper Lusatia. The coat of arms was granted about 1350, when six towns of Upper Lusatia founded a confederacy. This loose alliance was made a margravate by the kings of Bohemia in 1378.
