Caroline Chew

Singaporean equestrian

Caroline Rosanna Pei Jia Chew (born 18 April 1992)[1] is a Singaporean equestrian athlete and lawyer. She was at the 2018 World Equestrian Games and the 2014 Asian Games in dressage. She was also at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games for show jumping. She won many medals in the Southeast Asian Games. She was at the 2020 Summer Olympics.[2]

Career

Chew started riding horse when she was six years old. She did show jumping and was seventeenth place in the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

Chew later went from show jumping to dressage. Chew was the first Singaporean dressage rider at the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon.[3] She was 56th place.[3]

A new rider needed to be picked from the Dressage Grand Prix in Le Mans, France, for the 2020 Summer Olympics.[2] Chew went to the Grand Prix and made a personal score of 69.674.[2] She also got into the Olympics.[2] Chew is the first Singaporean equestrian to be in the Olympic Games.[2] Chew was later taken out from the Games because her horse was bleeding from the mouth.[4]

Personal life

Caroline Chew studied law at the Bristol University in England. She lives in London and works as a lawyer at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.[2]

Her older sister Catherine Chew is a successful show-jumper.[5] Catherine won silver and gold medals in the 2015 Southeast Asian Games in Singapore.[5]
