It was released on December 22, 2000. The movie stars Tom Hanks as a FedEx employee who gets stuck on an uninhabited island after his plane crashes in the South Pacific.

The movie gained positive reviews from critics and holds a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.[2] At the 73rd Academy Awards, Hanks was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role but lost to Russell Crowe's performance in Gladiator.[3]
