Colin Friels

Colin Friels (25 September 1952 – 7 December 2024) was a Scottish-born Australian actor. He was best known for his role in the television series Water Rats which earned him a Logie Award. He also appeared in the movies Malcolm (1986), Dark City (1998) and Tomorrow, When the War Began (2010).

Friels was born in Kilwinning, Ayrshire, Scotland. He moved to Australia in 1963, first living in Darwin, Northern Territory before moving to Melbourne, Victoria. He is married to actress Judy Davis. They have two children, son Jack and daughter Charlotte.

In 1997, Friels announced that he has pancreatic cancer and survived disconnectedly before his death. In February 2024, he announced that the cancer had spread to his bone and is terminal. Friels died from his cancer on December 7, 2024, at his home in Sydney, Australia. He was 72 years old.
